Good condition for age with some wear as expected on such an early piece.

By the 1850s he had opened a workshop, taken on students and was appointed as the official maker of Cloisonné in the Owari Province.

A Meiji Japanese Cloisonne Flying Herons Vase

£1,499.00 £485.00

A Fine Meiji period cranes vase with silver wire of varying gauge.

This stunning vase depicts herons flying and landing on rocks that are being lashed by waves on a beautiful teal ground. The detail is absolutely phenomenal.

The vase is almost 8" tall by 5" wide. and signed to the  base with the "crossed flags" mark.

There are two small damages on this piece. One is a narrow chip about 10mm long on the right shoulder, around towards the side, and the other is a light surface abrasion. These have both been colour filled with teal pigment and take nothing away from the mesmerizing craftsmanship and beauty of the vase

For additional info or images please email.

A beautiful and large fine detail Japanese Cloisonne Meiji era vase.

The vase depicts three fine herons perched in a willow tree. The colours are magnificent with the trunk of the tree in bright blue and flowers in a contrasting orange. No other color combination is quite as effective at this because blue and orange are in the middle of the warm and cold sides of the color wheel.

The vase has been executed in silver wire of varying gauge, always a sign of quality with the fine detail in thin silver wire and the tree trunk in thicker gauge silver wire. The neck and foot both have very fine detailed, colourful borders.

The vase stands 12" tall and is in good condition but had one chip to the side shoulder of the vase approx. 12mm long. This has been colour filled and is hardly noticeable.
